Is your Credit Card Terminal Safe?

In Ann Arbor Michigan recently a local bar was hacked into and numerous customers cards were compromised. According to police, the restaurants’ credit card processing computer was vulnerable to computer hackers allowing them to hack the system and gain access to all of the credit/debit card numbers that had been used at the location.

Citibank announces they were wrong

Citibank announces that their estimate on the number of accounts compromised in the recent hack of their system was wrong. Their original estimate of 200,000 ended up being "360,083 credit accounts of North America customers in an attack last month, Citigroup said late Wednesday. That's about 80% more than first estimated."

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard was created to help keep your credit cards safe from "cyber/hacking" theft. A recent study showed that 67% of companies that are supposed to be following the PCI guidelines are still not compliant. According to this report half of the major security professionals view the PCI as a burden and over half dont believe that it really helps improve security.
