“More often than not it’s the merchant that ends up paying for fraud losses,” says Brian Krebs, a former Washington Post reporter, who now works as an independent investigative journalist and runs the blog, Krebs on Security. “The bank will eat the fraud in limited cases if it can be shown that it wasn’t the merchant’s fault. Thank Goodness It’s.... Skimming Scheme? TGI Friday's restaurant has to be blushing a little today as one of their employees out of Maryland has been indicted on 16 counts of identity theft for skimming over 73 customers’ cards on a hand held skimmer. After using the card information to create new cards purchases were made that totaled more than $42,000.00. When you go out to eat, Monday or Friday, make sure you don’t let your card leave your hand.

Turn your Iphone, Ipod, or Ipad into a skimmer...

Turn your Iphone, Ipod, or Ipad into a skimmer... security researchers from Aperture Labs in England recently demonstrated how they used the Square dongle and turned it into a skimmer that takes the card information, turns it into a sound wave, then converts the sound wave back into credit card numbers saved in on their device. Scary part- square dongles are free from the company and this Aperture Lab did this in an airport waiting for a plane.

Chip Debit? is the move worth it?

Banks are starting to see the value in switching to Chip Debit. All of the equipment used with our Dine Fraud Free program is already accepting chip. One bank specifically reported "If I look at the first six months of 2010, as compared to the first six months of 2011, we've seen a 70 percent increase in the number of claims."
